And the winner is…

A few weeks ago we asked our beloved subscribers for suggestions for a product code name. We received over one hundred suggestions and thinned them down to six: Totem, Portal, Taku, Photon, Link and VoiR. Then they voted for their favorite and out of a thousand votes, more than a third were for Totem. Here are the results in full, pie charty goodness :

Thank you for participating, we are delighted to have such an active community!

Sorry, I don’t have any exciting pictures to share this time. We were on the road last week and visited Valve and VRcade. The Valve demo is impressive and is the experience we want to deliver at consumer prices. We will be collaborating with them to provide the best possible VR experience. We also had a chance to try out VRcade’s mocap setup and it is very promising!

New picture, news and pick a codename

Things are progressing well. In the last two weeks we had good advancement porting head tracking code from our last prototype and writing new MIPI code to display on the screen. We’re also finalizing financial planning for pre-orders.

Last Friday we had the HMD 3D printed professionally. Here’s a picture!

The white box with the LCD is the base from an older prototype and will be redesigned to match Totem.

We were happy to demo all this to a local TV show, tell our story and explain our product and our vision. For those in Quebec, catch Le Journal Techno next Friday at 10PM on channel V! Once it’s available, we’ll send the link to the web version for those not in Quebec.

We were delighted to meet and discuss with some of you at the MTLVR Meetup last week! A lot of your liked our lens demo. Together we can make big things happen!

Off to the races

With all the commotion around our reddit post, the past two weeks have been crazy, but in a good way. Unfortunately, with such a small team, we had no choice but to put development aside a bit to manage relations with the press, partners and investors.

We’re still focused on getting the prototype finalized for E3 and taking pre-orders this summer.

Things are coming along well. We are doing fast iterations with our 3D printer. Also, there’s a bit of code to port over from our last prototype.

We have the custom designed lenses in hand:
